Welcome to our blog, Incarceration Nation.
The graduate school project at the University of Pennsylvania's School of Social Policy and Practice that inspired this project is for a course titled "Human Behavior in the Social Environment". The assignment was to identify a social problem, deconstruct the problem, contextualize it, and analyze it. In order to do so, we have decided to create this blog to review the issue and begin to break it down.
Kelly Barto, Esther Brahmi, and Nancy Clarke each identified Mass Incarceration as not just a social problem, but a crisis in the Untied States. As a result, this blog will focus on the development of Mass Incarceration in the United States as it relates to society, politics, race, poverty, the drug war, and social work.
We hope that you enjoy reading our thoughts and contribute to not only this blog, but to educating others about this social crisis.
Enjoy!
Kelly, Esther, and Nancy
